UMBC Winter Housing - Can I Stay On Campus?

A question we frequently receive is “Can I stay on campus during winter session?” The answer is…it depends. Students living in nine-month housing, such as Potomac Hall or the apartments, can certainly stay on campus in January. The same is true for students living on some floors in Harbor Hall.

If you are not sure about the closure policy in your residential hall, contact UMBC Residential Life at reslife@umbc.edu or call 410-455-2591.

If you cannot stay on campus in January and live too far away to commute during Winter Session 2018, you still have options.

Online Courses

A number of fully online courses are offered in Winter Session 2018. Most online courses are asynchronous (work is completed individually on your own time). Check with the course instructor for details.

UMBC-Shady Grove

The UMBC-Shady Grove campus is an excellent option for UMBC students living in Montgomery County and the surrounding areas. During winter session, courses at UMBC-Shady Grove are open to all UMBC and visiting students. For many students, driving to Shady Grove in Rockville is more convenient than driving to main campus. The Universities at Shady Grove is a consortium of nine universities within the University System of Maryland.
